Hi Guys,
The drivers mirror on my Pug 406 (1999) does not defrost. I suspect a wire coming off but wondered if anyone out there had experience in removing the glass without breaking it- or how to get at the wires on the rear of the class.

Doesn't the back of the wing mirror clip off?
You should be able to see all the wires from there.
If not I'd guess the mirror should pop-out on pulling (be careful), especially if they are elecrically adjustable.

I don`t know the pug 406 but it may have a hole in the bottom of the housing that you can insert a small screwdriver into which you may be able to turn a plastic ring attached to the motor.it`s not much of a turn but the mirror would just pull out.Hope that help`s

Didn't get a chance to get a pic today; something to do with the 6+ breakdowns we had to deal with today on top of our pre-booked work! The cold weather sure brings 'em in, usually on the back of a tow-truck!

Robin - the image is now online - check by clicking the link in my sig. 406 Mirror (!!) is the image.
The way to remove it without breaking it is to release the spring clip by dislodging the clips ears from the lugs at the bottom of the mirror - it should then fall out.

Thanks a million- I will check it out this weekend. It seems quite straighforward to do. I might even see if i can check the wires are connected without removing it now I know where they are situated.
Again, thanks- this site is well worthy of praise where we get together and help each other. I have contributed to many peoples queries and it goes without saying that a 'thank you' is worth its weight in gold. In this case its well justified!!

Hi DL,
Well, I looked at the mirror and it doesn't seem to tilt up enough to get at the spring to undo it. Is there a trick to doing this? Will removing the front coloured cover make access easier? and if so, how do i remove it.
I guarantee at £41+VAT theres NO chance of me breaking it!!! If theres a sniff of getting close to breaking it, I'll leave it well alone.

The way to release the clip is to use an angled pick - rather like a screwdriver with a 90 degree bent tip?
I have a set of Snap-On ones, which come in very useful at times.
Otherwise, utilise a coathanger, suitably modified?
The clip is not very strong, it doesn't require much force to dislodge it.

Cracking picture DL. Indeed a picture does say a thousand words. Belive you me at £41 + VAT you WILL break it!
When I did it I went in via the plastic side of the mirror!
Just to make it easier and refresh my memory do the spring ends come out of the clip at 90 degs from the face of the mirror or do they come out of the clip parallel to the mirror? Cant quite make it out in the picture and it will make the job easier to know.
