Excuse my ignorance on this subject.
I have recently been given a company Mondeo to use whilst I am on secondment. The car is leased from ALD.
I put it into garage today as it was due service and MOT. I collected car to find out that it had failed its MOT due to a sensor for airbag not working. They also replaced 2 rear tyres and replaced front springs as well which had seized up.

My question is how do lease companies work with garages, how do they know when they are getting fleeced? If this was my own car I would be demanding to see the springs and I certainly wouldn't be getting tyres from a dealer. I have also posted re the MOT on the technical forum to be advised that airbag is not part of MOT!

Do the lease companies do random checks? Presume they get discounts but enough to not check up on garages work?

Any thoughts?

I took a lease car in for a service, and while it was there asked the dealer to supply me with a replacement filler cap as I'd lost the original (to be paid for by me).

When I picked the car up, they'd not only charged the lease company for the cost of the filler cap, but also £6 labour for fitting it!!!!

I have a fleet maintenance card. It has an authorisation limit of 150 pounds. Anything over this total cost has to be approved BEFORE work is carried out. The dealer phones the leasing co help desk (staffed by mechanics)and tell them what they are going to do and how much it will cost. They insist on trade prices for parts and service rates. (with a fleet of several hundred thousand cars the garages can not afford to upset this leasing co or they get blacklisted!!!!)

The mechanics on the help desk are incented on the amount of money they save

From my experience of putting lease vehicles in for MOT's / servicing; if a tyre needs changing / replacing then the lease company will send out one of their approved mobile fitters to the dealership to replace tyres. The lease company refuse to let the garage themselves change them.

The lease companies are reported to do spot checks, but over the many years of having a company vehicle I know that they are ripped of time and time again by garages. I have had everything replaced from phantom brake discs to clutches and this applies to all makes of vehicle, I have even informned the lease company of this but still it goes on.
