Hi Andy
I'm very proud to be a Lancastrian and am loving living in Kent - I find it beautiful with all the stately homes, glorious countryside and leafy lanes.
I see you're not too far from us - fancy a pint sometime?
Cheers

bugged,
Wasn't there a series made about the construction of Great Notley, presented by Tim Grundy and shown on Discovery Home and Leisure?
It certainly looked very pleasant indeed!

Flat in Fifth:
Luxury. We used to have to get out of the lake at six o'clock in the morning, clean the lake, eat a handful of 'ot gravel, work twenty hour day at mill for tuppence a month, come home, and Dad would thrash us to sleep with a broken bottle, if we were lucky!
Growler:
Well, of course, we had it tough. We used to 'ave to get up out of shoebox at twelve o'clock at night and lick road clean wit' tongue. We had two bits of cold gravel, worked twenty-four hours a day at mill for sixpence every four years, and when we got home our Dad would slice us in two wit' bread knife.
No Dosh:
Right. I had to get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night half an hour before I went to bed, drink a cup of sulphuric acid, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill, and pay mill owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our Dad and our mother would kill us and dance about on our graves singing Hallelujah.
Dynamic Dave:
And you try and tell the young people of today that ..... they won't believe you.
Mark (RLBS):
They won't!

There must be someone who has only ever lived in one place, and is not ashamed to admit it. Perhaps there's someone who has only ever lived in one house? You need to be of a reasonable age (over 50, say) for this to have any kudos, though.

Suppose I might as well join too - especially as billy25 has owned up to Cumbria.
Originally one of those pretend scousers from the south side of the Mersey, I now live near Whitehaven, Cumbria.

Rob:
Sorry to not reply sooner, I have only just seen your note.
It would be good to meet for a pint sometime. My wife is a bit suspicious about the Backroom, but I should be able to persuade her to meet up with you and HF.
Do you know a pub near the railway between Orpington and Ashford? Is there a railway between O + A?
Maybe we should continue by email. I'll attempt to remember to email you soon!
Cheers,
Andy
