I visited a local "Countrywide" store yesterday, they specialise in serving farmers and the horsey set.

They were selling Q8 oils very cheap.

Full synthetic 5/40 SL A3B3 £11.99
Semi Synthetic 10/40 SL A3B3 £8.99
Mineral 10/40 SL A3B3 £6.99

Is it any good? Does Q8 still exist?

Sorry = 11.99/8.99/6.99 is that per liter, 4 ltr or 5 ltr pack. or is SL miss-typed 5L ??

My mistake, the prices are for 4 litre containers.

The reason I asked about Q8 is because we had a few of their garages around Swindon but they seem to have been sold to other organisations.

API SL is the most recent engine oil rating. Made with Group II base oils, so I'm told and the next generation of lubricants.

I've just got some Shell Helix Ultra 15W/40 (I think) from the Auchan store in France at a cost of £12 for 5L. Is that a good price for this oil?

Q8 is fine.

Shell Helix Ultra is, I belive, a fully-synth., so £12 for 5 litre is a very good retail price by UK standards.

In my local discount stores "other" branded 10w40 semi synthetic is avalible for £7.99 for 5 litres
