Peugeot 306 Heating Fan and Rear Screen - Lancer
Hello All

I have got a Peugeot 306 Turbo Diesel on a 1997 R plate.

The probelm I have is that the interior heating fan does not operate and also the the heated rear screen does not work.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Are the two faults related to each other?

I have checked all the fuses and they are all fine, so if anyone has further clues or info as to what the problem is and how I can fix it, I would appreciate it

Looking forward to your replies

Chris

Yes these faults could be related. The most common cause is the igniton switch failing on 1 circuit ,causing loss of power.Problem area that affects most peugeot/citroen derivatives. The next problem is that if the switch is at fault ,it is not available seperately,it is supplied with new steering lock.If your car has electronic chip key then things could get more involved.

Hello

Thanks for your reply, it at least gives me somwhere to start.

I there any thing I can do or test to confirm this as the fault i.e somthing else that may not work, although I can not seem to find any thing that does not work.

If it is the switch is it easy to change?

Cheers for your help

Chris

Hi Chris,
The problem with the heated rear screen is a common problem on 306's. As was the fault with my nieces car, the timer relay had given uo. I seem to remember its located above the drivers right knee area, so its worth a look. Don'tknow if the heater relay is tied into this but it might be related.

Hope this helps.

When my 306 rear demister stopped working I had the following symptoms.
With demister switched on, voltage across rear demister was a few volts insted of the usual 12V. At first I suspected the demister relay, but that tested fine ,as it was giving out the full 12V.
I assumed the wire running from the relay to the rear demistor must have burned out along the run somewhere (Possible insulation eroding and earthing with the body). So I ran a new wire from the relay to the rear demistor (pig of a job, pulling carpets + trim). All was fine after that.

306 Heater fan failure to work - is often caused by burnt relay contacts. Open the fusebox cover (near to your RH shin) and remove the top LH relay, in a row of three.

Check the connections on this relay and perhaps the others while you are there. Look for telltale signs of overheating & burning.
