Peugeot problems...:( - clachnacudden
hello again folks,

It would be superb if anyone can help me with this one...

I have a 01 206 1.9Diesel that I recently took on a trip from London To Scotland...

the car ran fine until about 20 miles from home when it started pulling and misfiring. I also started to hear a horrendous noise from the engine and severe power loss, no warning lights (the best way to describe it would be that when I reved the engine it sounded like a diesel truck rather than a car..diesel engine noise x5) then after ten miles it just stopped. I asked some mechanic friends and they said at a guess it was bad fuel clogging the injector and the engine was flooded and must have blown it out.Which made sense as on Tuesday the car was jumping all over the place after filling up with petrol the night before. With the noise now gone and therefore nothing to check we left to come back down only to get as far a Gretna when the noise and pulling, misfiring started again. So we pulled over called the AA, he came out plugged the computer in with no faults reported started the engine with no problems or noises...it was fine again until London albeit we drove at 60 all the way home...no problems since other than the engine runs like crap...

Please help...

cheers if you can...

Do I read right?

clach - did you mean "filling up with petrol .." ?

I suspect clachnacudden didn't mean to say "filling up with petrol" but may have just done that in fact. The symptoms sound about right for a diesel engine running on petrol, similar to those experienced by my neighbour recently with his Peugeot 306 diesel car.

I should have mentioned that the car running fine for a while between bouts of rough running throws a little doubt on the 'diesel running on petrol' theory. Still worth taking a sniff in the tank filler though, to see if there's any trace of a petrolly smell.

Is it still under warranty?

Yeah! it is still under warranty...but getting them to admit there is something wrong with it when the noise comes and goes is another matter altogether..

any thoughts..

Sadly, I think the only thing you can do is drive on until it develops into something 'traceable' - by then it'll most probably be out of warranty.......

Took the car in this morning to be checked..no news yet..However the service fella said it happened to him coming down from Birmingham and he described it as the famous 'Peugeot diesel knock'. "So there is a cure then" I asked. "No" was the reply but the guy will look at it..?????. So what happened to that car the, we sold it anyway...Now that is just great!

Gives me hope...then

One thing after another....I do believe Watchdog are doing a documentary on Peugeot this Tuesday...

The result..apparently cleared the ECU's fault code memory and downloaded new instructions ,,? does that make sense?
Peugeot problems...:( - DL
Yes, quite possible.......I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Most modern cars have a 'downloadable' ECU - sort of like the dreaded Windows Update - the Manufacturer will fix bugs and improve certain areas and issue discs to the Dealers - who, at every service *should* plug their diagnostic computer into the car and check that the latest 'info' is loaded.

Some do................others don't...

I have have a hard time believing a computer their diagnosis..but we shall see...
