R reg, Can anyone tell me why the 2 small diameter rubber pipes that go to the exhaust gas analyser (small alloy thing fitted to bulkhead) keep being blown off when I rev the engine.

Could be for a number of reasons, however excessive back pressure from the exhaust is a possibility.
Has the fuel consumption increased and does the engine appear to be running hotter than normal?

Only just happened this afternoon. The gases from the pipes was so hot it started a small fire in the matting material fixed to the bulkhead.
The 2 pipes come off of a metal pipe that runs from the exhaust manifold to another unit fixed to the side of the inlet manifold. This other unit looks like it might contain a diaphragm of some sort. Another metal pipe goesfrom that to the inlet manifold to form a gas circuit.
We have tried a few things so far but as soon as the revs rise off the pipes go

Further to your suggestion of excessive back pressure, we have just put it back together again & tried it, there does not seem to be much coming out of the exhaust, so a blocked cat could be the reason.
How much for a new one
