Radio Code missing - looking4car
I bought a Ford Focus at auction in Feb. All seems ok and I'm happy with the car.

Unfortunately there is no record of the radio's security code.
The radio is working fine, but i guess i'll have a problem some time in the future.

It is a factory fitted radio. Can i get the code from a central database somewhere ?

If not, is the problem easier to deal with now while working than it would be after a flat battery ?

Thanks in advance

Yes, but not as urgent! Sorry this isn't exactly helpful, but I await better informed answers with interest, as I have a similar potential problem...

I think you can get the code from any Ford dealer, but I'm not sure which information you need to provide...

You normally need to provide your local Ford dealer with proof of rightful ownership of the car stero and they will give you the code.

Best way is usually to turn up at the dealers in the relevant car!

Do you have to cross their palm with silver ?

Nope.

Another point worth noting...Not sure if ti still applies, but it used to:

Ford stereo gone kaput? You're local Ford dealer will excahnge for a Ford reconditioned one for a small fee (much much less than replacement cost).

Anyone know if they still do this?

The dealer will probably want to see

a. You
b. The car
c. The V5

From the latter he will get the VIN and that will give him the radio code, via the computer, so long as the radio fitted is the one it left the factory with. If not some auto electrician should help; every market I go to has a stall offering to unlock and decode mobile phones so a radio can't be too different.

Yes, most car audio shops should be able to get the code for between £15 - £25. You'll normally have to leave it with them for some guy to come in and do it.

The local Citroen Dealer gave me the code for my Xantia just by me providing Reg and Chassis Number.

All done over the phone - they were very helpful - can also tell you what recall work (if any) has been done.

"some guy to come in and do it."

Usually wearing a baseball cap (incorretly) and fingers still blackened by fingerprint ink. (sorry a bad day in court dealing with such persons.)

Sounds like these codes are a total waste of time.

A lot of hassle for honest folk and no trouble for the baseball cap brigade,
