Minor paintwork repair - Miller
Hi, I am after some advice. I noticed this morning that someone had left a scrape from my o/s rear bumper going along just above the wheel arch and ending a little way into the passenger door, probably done by someone reversing out of a car park space next to mine (needless to say no note was left!)

I am "lucky" that the paint does not seem to have been removed from my own car, however I cannot wash the scrape off just using car shampoo/water. Can anyone recommend a product that will remove these marks without stripping my paintwork also? I am loathe to pay a bodyshop £100+ for what looks like a 15 minute job. By the way my car is a light metallic blue colour if that makes any difference.

Just try ordinary car polish with a bit of elbow grease as your first option. With any luck any paint from the offending car will come off.

Try polishing. Try T-cut. And look around for Chromopolish (or it may be Chroma polish; anyway, it's made by Presta), which my local body shop has just recommended to me for superficial imperfections. If you don't succeed, try Chips Away, who will charge you a good deal less than a body sho

T-Cut should do the job but if you have no luck with t-cut or a similar cutting polish, then the proper way to restore to a perfect finish is by flattening and polishing. You need to take care but it will give perfect results. Rub down the marked area with 000 grade 'wet and dry' and soap and water. Be particularly careful on any edges nearby.
After the mark has disappeared, the polished surface can be restored by using rubbing compound. Ideally you want to use 'Firecla G3' but t-cut will do the job. After this, use a good polish to seal the surface.
You have to take care, but if the surface of your paint is damaged by the scratch (and if T-Cut alone wont remove it then it has been, for sure) this is the only way to restore the finish.

Mikey - most cars these days have metallic finishes which need a lacquer topcoat, so your method may be too simple.
