Here goes nothing, just wanted to know if the estimate the garage gave me sounds about right for the work that needs doing.
A MOT failure did come as a bit of a shock to me, because I didnt notice or feel anything wrong with my car...it drives very well etc...
But it failed on:
Near side front C.V. boot split
Off side rear shock absorber mounting bottom bushes (extra movement)
Parking brake isn\'t very effective
Extra travel on parking brake lever
Please forgive me if all that sounds a bit weird, but its what the guy wrote down on the failure slip (hand writing was a bit hard to read)
Its a nice 306XL L Reg, 106000 on the clock.
They\'ve quoted me £150-£180 including parts etc, and a possibility of it being less but he didnt know exactly. It includes the free re-test.
What do you guys think?

My response would depend on whether the garage is a Peugeot dealer, and in what part of the UK. The parking brake work needn't be expensive (but it just might) and the others need cheapish parts and some labour, so it doesn't seem unreasonable.
I used to have a theory that dealers had a 'job of the month' depending on their overstocks of spare parts. In my case it was worn 'front lower suspension bushes' at £75 each plus labour and VAT, on a 306 with one previous lady owner and less than 30K on the clock. You seem to have avoided that problem!

Get him to actually show you the faults - e.g. where is the split/extra play/long travel etc.
Given he can do that, I would have thought the money reasonable given that includes a succesful re-test.

Cheers, its not actually a peugeot dealer, but I'm gonna beg and pleed for him not to rip me off too much as I'm only a humble student with no income as yet (only just got another job at John Lewis on the weekends)
I'm sure my credit card company love me...

The only unknown there is the condition of the rear brake assemblies (which would give rise to the poor handbrake)
The cylinders could be leaking all over the shoes giving the symptom or it could merely be a bit of adjustment that is required.
Shock absorber lower bushes are easy to do, parts are cheap.
