can anyone tell me what temperature the fan should switch on, on a peugeot 406 1.9td

Hi,
My 406 1.9td cuts in when the temp gauge is about 2/3rds across. Don't know the exact temp- sorry.

is that when the temp gauge gets just over half at about 100
|
Should be around the 100 degree mark, maybe just a tad below.
|
Just out of interest, how often do people get their td engines up to 100C?
My 306 1.9td has never cleared 90-95, and it has been driven pretty hard at times, and the radiator leaks a bit too!

The highest i have ever got to is 100 on a fast motorway run (100 mph+)mine doesnt really rise above 85-90 even when idling in traffic.I think they vary- my friend's runs significantly hotter than mine, around 90+ in normal conditions.
Cheers

mine runs at about 75-85 on the motorway but when around town it will rise to about 90 and when standing about 95 with no fans comeing on, do u think this is okay and nothing to worry about

All Cit/Pug 1.9td cooling fans should be cutting in betwen 94-99decC. So at 95deg you are close to that point...assuming your gauge is accurate.
To do a proper static test on this set the engine up to 2000rpm with the throttle cable clip and just wait to see what happens. You'll see the gauge climb and hopefully the fan/s cut in and pull the reading back to about 85deg before going off again.

It should be factory set at 90c

Don't take the gauge reading as gospel!

There is a 2 stage cut in ( or is it 3?????) with one fan coming in at one temp and then the whole lot coming in at a higher temp. I am sure the temps are in the Haynes manual. Sorry cant remember what they where.

or is it both fans on at speed 1 then speed 2 as the temperature rises?
|
I can conclusively say that i now know exactly when the fan cuts in on a 306TD, as my radiator emptied itself on the M40 last night and the fan came on at one of the seemingly random markings on the temp gauge, about 95degC. It had never come on before with me driving, but managed to hold 95 til id limped home to watford, where it cooled to 90 before switching itself off.
