Peugeot 306 Xtdt Airbag Light... HELP? - jim_mapps
Hi

I have a P reg (Mark 1) Peugeot 306TD and the airbag light is always flashing at me...

It comes on with the ignition, then flashes for a while when the engine is started and eventually just stays on.

Now I've heard that there's something under the seat that can cause this... can anyone tell me what it is, where to find it and what to do with it???

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Look under each seat from the back footwells and you will find a two pin plug and socket. It should be clipped up to the springs of the seat. You may well find that one or both are loose or disconnected from kicking (small) feet. Otherwise unless you can find a good independent with the correct'kit' to decode the SRS ECU you will have to go to a dealer.

It's not possible to set the airbag off or anything stupidly painfull and expensive by plugging them back in is it???

Also, the MOT is due... now it's running perfectly but the deflector pipe on the exhaust is badly rusty (You know the bit after the back box that deflects the emissions towards the ground???)

the rest of the exhaust is almost spotless, Is this gonna be a fail???

Not likley, The emission tool they use goes in past this part to detect emissions. However, if the deflector completly falls apart when they try to do this, it might fail.

No you should not have a problem but to avoid any risk dont do it with the ignition on! Have you had a look yet?

Yeah...

Cheers guys, I've been living with that problem for about 8 month, thinking it would cost a left arm to fix but a quick fiddle around under the seat and it's done!!!

If u were in front of me instead of infront of a computer screen I'd buy u a pint.

Hi,
The advice you have been given is somewhat correct, but there is a problem with 306/406 underseat harness's. A good idea is to unplug the plugs, apply copious quantities of vaseline then re-connect. re-clip it to the underside of the seat and the problem may well be resolved. If not there is a Peugeot fix which entails cutting the plugs off and soldering the wires together (like the plug was never there). I did this on my 406 and on two other 306's and the problem went away.
