Caravan Traffic Jams - flatfour
last saturday there were 20 miles of static trafic on the M5 southbound north of Bristol, most of these were caravans. As an ex.caravanner this amazes me as caravanning is the one holiday you can go on when you please, so why do they all choose Saturday. Its much better travelling mid week, lorry drivers and reps are courtious to caravans, the services are quieter and the journey just flies by.

Yes, although if you have to be stuck in traffic, what better vehicle to be in than a caravan. Home from home?

I was watching Alistair Darling last week. He's the latest Transport Minister. I'm sure he was alluding to road pricing by hour of the day.

We then might get caravanners and lorries etc preferring to travel at night rather than when the rest of us go.

I know a lot of HGVs do travel at night, and their deliveries must go to places that are open for them when they arrive, but it must be sensible to use the roads more around the clock.

Beetlefreak, you\'re dead right, the problem is, though, that a lot of we wage slaves have employers who insist that we take our summer leave in blocks of whole weeks, hence we finish on Friday night and hating to lose too much of our precious holiday we set off asap. In the ideal world I would love to travel midweek, sadly, until the world grows up a bit more, we still have to fit our little boxes!!

Saturday has traditionally been "turnaround" day for holidays for generations.
