Passat - John
Wondering as there as some experts around.........thinking of buying a Passat 1.6 SE with only 13,000 miles on the clock S reg 1998, any opinions about this car in general and how much i should be looking to pay for it. Parkers has it down for £8500 in A1 condition???

Any help would be grateful

Thanks
Re: Passat - chris watson
the 1.6 is a bit under powered, so try and get the nice 1.8.
Re: Passat - Mark
I have a Passat 1.9 TDI PD and I find it to be very good.

HJs car by car guide flags up one or two points with the earlier Passats and I can agree with Chris that the 1.6 is a bit underpowered, the 1.8 or the 2.0 are a better or choice but don't overlook the TDIs they have very good economy, (I get about 49mpg, mostly motorway) and overall performance is very acceptable.

As ever

Re: Passat - Arthur
I would check it out on one of the Glass's Guide valuation products the value my car on motoring.telegraph.co.uk is good and you could look at Passat's of the same age and mileage in their used car database.
Seek out a TDi - David Lacey
As I have said before, go out and seek out a good TDi

Don't bother with the petrol models, especially the 1.6

You won't be dissapointed with a 110BHP (Red I) TDi, for sure.

Re: Seek out a TDi - Mark
Yep

he's right

I'm very pleased with my TDI Passat PD (red d and red i), much better than a Vectra DI (I had one of these for over 100k) or a mondeo (driven several from the fleet).

go on

treat yourself.
