RX8 v Celica v Leon Cupra R - apm
I'm looking to change my car soon(ish), and would be interested in y'all's opinions. Favourite is the RX8, but downside is no discount and getting hold of one, and expensive for leather. I like the Celica, and drivethedeal are doing big discounts at the moment (like nearly 2k). Or the Leon Cupra R. Smallish discouts available, dead fast and I already like Seats alot (and my local dealer is great).

Ta in advance!

RX8 - great looking, quick and cheap (for what it is). will probably be ultra reliable and the dealers have a good rep. however it averages 24mpg. What that means in the real world is something like 19 probably and 15 with a heavy foot. Nice car tho.

Celica. great looking, quick and cheap (for what it is). will probably be ultra reliable and the dealers have a good rep. however the interior is awfully plasticky. and the vvti has to be revved like mad and has no torque until 6000 rpm.

Seat. If you have a good dealer and like them i would say that one for you. good cars. however, not as stylish as the others.

I'd go RX8 and ignore the fuel....

Only problem with Rx8, is you can't order in Lightning Yellow!!The colour choice of pre-release vehicles!

&, as I've said before, why anyone would want to make seats out of dead animals, beats me.Especially in cars.

Make sure you get the BIG sunshine roof option, too!!

Only driven the Celica and I'd endorse the previous comment about having to thrash it to get the VVT effect - just tiresome really.
And to Vansboy, I sympathise if your point about leather seats is an ethical one, but my 102k 7yr old car would look a complete shed inside if it had fabric seats, as it is, it still looks and feels fresh.

It seems to me that when you come to resell the car you've got either an under-rated car, a design which was already 4 years old when you bought it, or one of the most revolutionary cars ever to come out of Japan.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the RX8 doing a Mini - going for a year or so without losing a penny. So forget about the cost of leather and join the rotary club.

Please note that this is mindless speculation tinged with jealousy.

I think it'll hold it's money well, too!

Our friends at What Car, reckon the oposite!

In 3 years time , we can all own one for pennies!!

Don't know about the Seat or Maxda but the rear 'seats' in the Celica are only usable if you're vertically challenged !

Seem to remember reading that the RX8 was much better in this respect but of course that may not matter to you but I'd always be worried abot those occasions when 4 seats are necessary.

Have toddled along to my local Toyota dealer and had a play in 190 T-Sport Celica. Nice, if radically different in delivery to my Cupra. Got offered their demonstrator (the one I drove), Oct lat year on a 52 plate, with sat nav and bodykit, 13k miles for £17750. Seems like a good deal, as they'd give me £8500 for my Cupra (May 01 on a Y, 11k). The balloon payment sceme especially is tempting; I get £2300 back in cash (my car as deposit), pay £200pcm, then guaranteed value of £8300 in 3 years.

I am sorely tempted, but the upgraded Leon Cupra R is out in November (up to 225bhp!), and having spoken to my local Mazda dealer, the RX8 is looking very tempting. They're taking £1000 deposits now for delivery in October for the 231bhp, or next year(!) for the 192. You basically get first refusal on the cars when they do arrive, and if you don't want it, you get £900 back. I think speculators may move in (the impression I get is that these will be very oversubscribed, as Maz suggests, 'doing a mini').

Any more opinions???

And cheers for your input!

Didn't know we could make EXTRA additions to your list,SO HERE GOES, ...
1st place Rx8 as I said earlier, Lightning Yellow
2nd choice Chrysler Crossfire not seen colour options yet
3rd as an also ran, Nissan 350, even looks OK in that funy gold colour, but a bit too similar to the Audi 'Wot No?' TT

interesting suggestions Vansboy, but i'm not sure if he's looking to pay £25k?!!!!

For less than £20k and lightning quick how about an Audi S4? will hold value better and be a lot quicker.

Or for a new car how about a Golf 150bhp TD. Far quicker than the petrol variety.

The balloon payment schemes are very helpful but it means that you may be rather locked in to toyota when it comes to change.

Even though i've suggested a few, for £20k i would probably go BMW 325 or 330ci coupe 2 yrs old - will hold resale far better, be smoother and by buying second hand you'll probably get a fully loaded one.
