"there" and "their"
However, I would not dare to say that the people who make these common English mistakes should not drive.

When saving characters on a text msj, I cn understand it ;) - but for everyday communications in the 'real' world, the nano seconds they save, are wasted by the educated trying to decipher what they're on about!
If they're so interested in saving nano seconds, think what their driving will be like!!!!
Anyway, that's a bit off the point really......
It was the sheer irresponsibility of putting in for a driving test without being sure about effective use of the gears that actually struck me! (and leaving it to a day or so before said test to enquire of total strangers!!!!)
Anyway - he failed, and yet he still doesn't think he needs professional instruction. *That's* why I thought he was a muppet.
Some of the other postings on there leave me dumbstruck aswell!

Like I said, I couldn't believe it. Unfortunately when you look in on some of the other threads, it *would* appear to be serious.
The lack of basic intelligence in some of the postings is really worrying, and frankly if I were the parent of some of the posters, I wouldn't be letting them out on their own, let alone on the road.
Many of them seem to have taken numerous tests to no avail, and don't seem to be making any further progress.

I wouldn't defend the SMS speak (do these people know that there are such words as 'your' and 'you're'?) or the general intelligence level (the site has a particularly moronic thread about vandalising speed cameras). Nonetheless, the driving test *is* harder than it used to be. It lasts longer and you can fail for getting too many minor errors. I suspect few experienced drivers would pass if they were to take it without preparation.

As said before, the most worrying issue is the complete lack of basic knowledge about a motor vehicle and how to drive it.
You can know the highway code like the back of your hand but if you still can't manage gears or use a clutch what happens to your awareness of other road users and such.
And to 'fink' that you may have a chance of passing a driving lesson when at this level is beyond belief.
