Volkswagen Golf 2.0 GT TDI 2005! - Selling an old Golf in COVID when shielding - BPL

How could I sell my 160000 mile bluefin chipped Golf with loads of nearly new parts inc oem turbo calipers springs shocks etc. never failed MOT. 50mpg+ goes like stink except there's no stink as it doesn't smoke. i can't be in the car when test driven eother as driver or passenger. :-( I'm guessing We Fleece Any Owner, auction or trade in would be pence not pounds. Maybe some young buck would want to customise it? Just a shame to throw it away

It has no value through the likes of WBAC or similar as they’re only interested in retailable cars. The modifications add no value either, in fact they actually devalue it. I’d advertise it locally and state only the basics, make, model, basic origional spec and put loads of pictures up and offer it at a sensible price. Someone will take it but make no promises in the advert such as “good runner” “reliable car” etc etc. Trade in or auction value would be almost zero, you’d probably get as much in discount for not trading in to be honest. Sell it privately for a few hundred quid and then negotiate on another car with no trade in would be the best bet normally but in difficult times I could understand why you’d just part-ex it and move on.

There is going to be a very small percentage of potential buyers in the least bit interested in your modifications, a ‘young buck’ would certainly be one. As for any others, maybe the for sale section of a VW forum/website, or possibly the classified’s in a VW magazine.

But if selling it through ‘normal channels’ I wouldn’t expect to get anymore money than were it standard, possibly less.

Regardless of whether or not the other parts you listed are stock, it is chipped. If someone came on the forum asking advice about buying a 15 year old car which had been chipped, they’d be strongly advised not to.

Yes where I live the boy racer types moved onto older VW TDi engined Passats, Golfs, Leons and Fabias with the usual silliness of darkened headlamps, lowered suspension, screeching noise from turbocharger when changing gear, and bigger exhausts; it would appear that the more black smoke emitted, the better... though presumably they alter the chipping before MoT time assuming they last the year the way the engines are treated.

Mostly they prefer 1.9PD, but I have seen 2.0TDi ones as well. So there definitely is a demand; I think the VW forum/website as badbusdriver is the way to go.

From a neighbour noise point of view at least the diesel favourites didn't rattle my windows so much as the petrol powered counterparts; neighbours have moved on so we now have a quiet street :-)

Without being too nosey, I would ask why you don’t need/want this car anymore?
If I just needed a good solid runner, I’d keep it?

Yeah i know! I've had it since 2009 and really need a more reliable dependable main car. Moneywise i could just throw it away but it would be such a waste environmentally and that someone might enjoy it. It's a classic example of a post warranty German car - a psrts magnet Inc 2 turbos one was £1000 fitted.

I'm sure the remap had nothing to do with it.
