I have recently bought a 2011 Vauxhall Insignia from a dealer.

The model is manual transmission and has 93000 miles on it.

The concern i have is when i put the car into 1st gear and lift the clutch up from the floor the clutch is only about 1 inch from the floor and the engine starts to bit (car wants to move forward).

Other cars that i have had the bit is normally towards the end of letting out the clutch .

Apart from that the car drives fine. is this normal for this make and model or is it a sign that the clutch is worn and might need replacing soon?

It might sound like a silly question but i have had bad luck lately with cars.

In a word, no. It sounds more like your others cars have worn clutches - a worn clutch normally manifest its self as bite near the top.

However, on a lot of modern cars there is actually no change in bite point and the first sign is clutch slip.

It sounds about normal but if it is really near the bottom that can indicate a hydraulic issue.

Unless its cable operated,like mine, in which case it might be adjustable/need adjusted.

Googling shows a number of clutch cable suppliers for that make, but I get a "cant access from your location" error message when I click them so dunno if they are for real.

There is no sign of the clutch slipping.

If it was a hydraulic issue would it make it more difficult to change gears smoothly?

It is not as smooth changing from 1st to 2nd as 3rd gear onwards.
