I wonder how many others have SORNed their pet cars for a bit? My TR7's tax runs out in a few days time. I can't see much activity for the next few weeks so have decided to keep it off the road for the time being. Still, it will be only the first time in 40yrs it's been so idle. Bit like its owner....

Around here, I've seen quite a few classics out and about recently. A series 1.5 E-tyoe, an Interceptor, a very nice TR5 and, surprisingly, a Lambo Jalpa. Haven't seen one of those for a very long time.

While out for my daily walk yesterday I was passed by a guy driving a TR8. It sounded great, but did smell like it was burning some oil.

a Lambo Jalpa. Haven't seen one of those for a very long time.

Wow!, the Jalpa is indeed a scarce car with 410 being made over its 7 year production run. Quite a bit less than the next 'junior' Lambo, the Gallardo, of which they made 14,000. Mind you, they only made 54 (12 in rhd) of the Jalpa's direct predecessor, the Silhouette!.

The rarest car i have ever seen in the flesh was a Gordon Keeble (around 100 made between 1964 and 1967). I was absolutely buzzing at having seen one, but nobody i know would have any idea what a GK was, so i couldn't share my excitement (yes, i know, sad!!).

But back to the present, and the thread, i saw an early (chrome bumper) 911 the other day at a supermarket.

I woul dhave thought the TR7 would be entitled to the zero vehicle tax rate. Doesn't seem to be much point in SORNing a car if it doesn't cost anything.

Styled by Giugiaro it was a very handsome machine. Fast too, with a 300hp 5.4 litre Chevy V8.

Only if it was built before 1 Jan 1980. Mine was 'delivered' on 14 May 1980 and first registered 19 May 1980. I have no idea of its gestation period - and haven't bothered to try to find out. Anyway, not long to go!

Loved the emblem on the badge. Because of the irony the animal was chosen as the emblem.

That is true, but it is only part of the story. Apparently a pet tortoise wandered wandered into frame in the original photo shoot (which was done on grounds owned by the maker). This then inspired the (ironic) use of such a slow animal as the emblem for such a fast car.
