Vauxhall Astra Shakes - BmthGary
Ello

Just recently bought a Vauxhall Astra 1.7TD Estate. Have only just taken it over
60MPH on the dual carraigeway and the car Rattles/Vibrates through the
steering wheel.

I've had the tracking done and the wheels balanced, which has helped but not
solved the problem, although it is more bearable now.

Not sure where else to look!

Anyone have any suggestions?

Regards

Inner Driveshaft Joints more than likely. I've known a couple with this problem and renewing the joints cured both.

It may be worth asking the garage/tyre dealer who balanced your wheels to double check (This shouldn't cost you), in my experience wheel balancing is done in a 'hurry'and most fitters may not take that extra care to eliminate any imbalance. The other possibility is that there is a fault in either your tyres or wheels. Have you tried swapping your front & rear wheels around??

Exactly the same happened to me with my Astra 1.7 TD estate. Vibration present around 60'ish after I bought it (wasn't immediately obvious to be picked up on the test drive). Took the wheels to be balanced and they were "well out" according to the fitter - he was suprised there were any balance weights on at all. Rebalanced them and checked the tracking, but that was spot on.

Seem to remember it helped a lot but there was still some vibration present, however I can't say I notice it now.

I had the same problem, and it turned out ot be the brake disk. As on this model the disk is very thin, it is prone to warping and when the brake is applied it vibrates, so unfortunately it sounds like you need new brake disks
