Hi guys..........I don\'t know if you\'re fed up with hearing about Ford\'s that cut out but I have a similar problem.
My 1996 Ford Ka cuts out when dropping from high revs (75-80 mph in 5th) to idle.........this only seems to happen when the car is warm. I\'ve tested this when the car is at a standstill by opening the throttle up to high revs and then shutting it quickly - this causes the car to splutter and die! There is no problem with restarting the car.
I\'ve already tried cleaning the throttle body and idle air control value with carb cleaner and this doesn\'t make a difference.
After reading a couple of posts on this board I\'m thinking I might try a new oxygen sensor...........
I\'d apperciate any advise that people can give please!

I had same problem on an Escort with 1.3 Endura engine which seems to be ok since I treated it with Redex Injector Treatment followed by a semi-"Italian Tune-Up" 350 mile trip down the A1.

Try checking the clutch switch.

Also try a new potentiometer

When the engine decelerates from high rpm. the fuel is shut off by the module;it should come back in at 1100-1200rpm-it sounds as if the response is a little slow-it is very unlikely to be the 02 sensor.

I have had a couple of these, both turned out to be a fault on the idle speed control valve which needed replacing.

I agree totally with Andrew. I do not think you can clean a stepper motor properly with carb cleaner. This should cost about £70 at a main dealer ( about £40 if you get trade).

Hi - thanks for the response............When you say "Stepper Motor" do you mean the Idle Air Control Valve or something else? If its not the IACV then can you tell me where the Stepper Motor is located please?

Ka don't have a stepper motor as such;it's the idle speed control valve-on the front of the inlet manifold at the top of the engine.
