Mitsubishi Shogun 2013 - Air conditioner problem - Surfer01

We recently purchased a 2013 Shogun however the air conditioning is faulty. Apparently this is due to a pipe being corroded. Apparently this is a result of two different metals being used. The clip holding the pipe in place is of a different metal the aluminium pipe.

The clip needs to be changed and the pipe replaced however as this is a very common problem not mentioned on the Shogun review, there are no pipes available until October. This is very unfortunate for us as we are travelling to France where it is a lot warmer than the UK and the air con is needed especially as we have dogs with us on the trip.

A very poor showing from Mitsubishi who appreantly have been aware of this fault for a number of years, but have refused to do a recall especially has coolant leaking out is an enviromental issue!

Dealer and within 6 months? Sale of Goods Act - dealer resposnsible.

And competent Air con specialist should make up a pipe.

This is a common problem on any car with aluminium pipes and "p" clips. You probably do not need a new pipe but a good repair can be done by any good indy a/c specialist that has the correct tooling for ali pipe repairs. example here;www.youtube.com/channel/UCgLfi_UJ0lrS0KsGkZ9Tn3w

The dealer replaced the pipe as it could not be fixed. An Inde looked at it and also said it needed to be replaced. Air con working perfectly.

The point of my post is that Mitsubishi have been aware of this issue for a number of years but have ignored it preferring the customer to pay for the new parts.

Mitsubishi motors has been loss making for years and after nearly two decades of cost cutting and an ever poorer range of models it has recently been bought by Renault who intend on producing more models based on their own architecture. It’s the end of Mitsubishi just as it was the end of Nissan when they took over. The firm was a very different entity in the 80’s and 90’s when quality and customer satisfaction were taken very seriously.

As a Mitsubishi salesman in the 90’s i remember the hay day and I seen the beginning of the end when quality took a dive with the introduction of the Dutch built Carisma which was nowhere near the standard of previous cars. The execs kept telling us the firm lost money on every car built and it was only the profit from the finance arm that kept things going. Today’s Mirage is a pale imitation of the brilliant Colts from the 80’s and 90’s which were genuine quality products that would run to massive mileages without a squeak or a rattle.

That same factory at Born in the Netherlands - ex Daf - ex Volvo - ex Mitsubishi etc now produces the Mini Hatch, Countryman and Convertible and also the BMW X1.

Explains the poor quality.

Hi, I had the same problem as above and for people with the same dilemma, my fix was to have a new pipe made for a hydraulic hose repair company, this only cost £40 for a hose that measured 8 foot long. Remedy is to remove the pipe by cutting the old pipe with snips behind the fixing nuts, measure the length of pipe using string then, remove ends and take to hose company they normally make while you wait. Hope this of some help to people. Jock Hendry
