Escort suspension problem - king arthur
Have a K plate Escort Ghia, with creaking from the front offside suspension and serious steering wander when declutching/accelerating. Anyone know which particular bit to look for first, obviously something under there must be broken? Will get the wheel off tomorrow and have a butcher's, but would be good to have some ideas first.

Taking for granted you've checked basics i.e. tyre pressure, excessivelly uneven tyre wear etc,the experience I had turned out to be the lower wishbone arm, the steering wander may be caused by this but it really would have to be shot to give this symptom. If the wishbone arm shows no sign of movement when on the ground and jacked up then try getting some lubrication into the top of the shocker where they come through the inner wing with the vehicle jacked up. Sounds a waste of time but have known this to cure inexplicable noises.

There's no uneven wear on the tyres, and it drives straight at reasonable throttle - but veers left when declutching and then right again when taking up drive in the next gear. It also creaks when bouncing the front offside. Points to something broken or loose, I've not too much knowledge of mk. 5 Escorts so I was wondering if there's anything common that breaks on these - subframe mounting perhaps?
