Ford focus 2001 1.6 - Drivers door remote unlock issue - Charlie Croker

Afternoon.

On my 1.6 2001 focus, the key fob works fine to lock / unlock the car apart from drivers door, it will lock with the remote but will only unlock that door with the key.

I’ve got various things I need to sort on the car at the weekend (blowing exhaust, underseal, speed sensor..) But hoping for some pointers on what to look at for this?

Drivers door latch actuator is faulty. Common fault on Focus, recently replaced mine .Found one for £25 on e bay.A new part is more than the value of the car.

Thanks for that, appreciated! It would not take much to cost more than the cars worth :-)

Car only cost me £300 a year ago, hoping for a few more years out of it, so far done all the issues & service myself

I've seen one for the front passenger side for £25 so will keep looking for drivers side. Given the age of the car, fully fucntioning remote locking is a bit of a luxury - but even the boot works!

I had the same well known fault - and lived with it for years. Finally decided to have a go at repairing it last summer. Thanks to a u-tube demo (search 'Focus Mark 1 door lock problem' or similar - you will hopefully find it), I took the door card off, extracted the the lock mechanism, sawed a corner off the white plastic sealed box that houses the actuator, squirted it with copious WD40 and banged it about a bit - hey presto - it started working again!
