I have recently had the E189 VW emissions software update carried out on my 2.0 TDI Golf. Travelled to Cornwall from London. On the way on two occasions, the Glow Plug warning light started flashing and the car went into limp mode. This was sorted when I restarted the car. On the way back however, this warning light came on along with the Catalytic Converter Light on constant. The car lost power. Recovery was called and diagnostics showed that the issue was with the EGR valve. I was recovered 300 miles back home.

My local garage hooked my car up to the diagnostic machine and fault code P0403 - EGR CIRCUIT PASSIVE / CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION showed up.

I was told that as I had recently had the software updated at VW I should take it back for them to reciting as the fix costs in the region of £1000.

I have taken the car to VW and it is with them now. Has anyone else heard of this problem and where do I stand in respect of VW being held responsible or not?

On our Golf TDi a flashing glow plug light meant that the brake pedal proximity switch was out of range. A simple and cheap fix.

No, car felt perfectly normal. We decided to pull over when it was safe (on a single carriageway part of the A1 at the time) but spotted after we had braked the light went out. We did not have the handbook with us so carried on. Another 10 miles or so down the road glow plug light on again, touch the brake pedal and off it goes. Carried on like this until we got home. Then read the handbook, "if the glowplug light illumiinates when driving stop ASAP and call for assistance", whoops. So I phoned the garage on Monday who said it was safe to carry on driving and booked it in. They reset the pedal sensor thingy and all was fine.

Mine is loosing power, as if it's in limp mode. Can't go above 2000rpm. Think mine is a dreaded EGR failure.

My EGR failed 2 weeks after the vw software update. It's proving very common. How did you get on?
