Hi All.
I'm a massive fan of keyless entry in cars. Working in the community out late at night, sometimes on my own and not always in the best of areas the last thing I want to worry about is finding my keys.
I'm looking at purchasing a new Mokka X but though keyless entry seems available on European models it's not an option on UK models. Would anyone know who I could contact at Vauxhall to see if they have any plans to add this option in the near future? When I ask the sales people none of them have a clue. I'd hate to go and buy a different car then find the next Mokka will have keyless entry.

The Mokka isn't a good car anyway, I'd sooner buy pretty much anything else that is available for similar money apart from Fords God awful Ecosport. The missing keyless entry is the least of its worries.
Friend has one and hates it. Hardly any more space than a Corsa but worse ride and handling plus poorer fuel economy and you pay more for the privilege. They had no end of bother with the DPF clogging and eventually Vauxhall agreed to swap it for a petrol model which they can't wait to get shot of.
Do yourself a favour, save your money and buy a far nicer to drive supermini like a Fiesta instead.

Further to this, keyless entry introduces an extra security risk. Car thieves with the right equipment can intercept the signal and gain access or steal your car. It's a big issue that's been reported often in the press. Perhaps Vauxhall are accepting this and have deleted it in order to gain lower insurance groupings.

Keyless is certainly not a "must-have" for everyone - personally I can't see the point or advantage over remote central locking I deliberately didn't order it among the £10,000 option add-ons with my new car last year - and having a courtesy car which did have it just reinforced my view - I did however regret not ordering the automatic range adjustment and cornering lights which the courtesy car had.

I agree that the Mokka is an also-ran in this market.
However, to answer the OP's question, contact Vauxhall customer services at HO and if they don't know, see if you can gain access to the Marketing bods -they may be called Product Specialists or similar.
What Car? recently carried out a road test on Mokka X vs. Qashqai vs. Seat Ateca, and the Mokka X came a distant third.
If those other two are too big, take a look at the Renault Captur and Peugeot 2008 instead.

Don't know about professional magazine road tester's opinions, most of them i disagree with completely on nearly everything, but SLO76's annihalation of Mokka is pretty devastating all on its own, good enough in fact that if i had fancied one that idea would have been scrapped..:-)
It's only saving grace being no keyless go.

Hi RT,
I know a lot of people that arn't interested in keyless but for me and the work I do it's ideal. I can put the keys in the bottom of my bag and forget about them. My arms are normally full of medical equipment and so makes it just an easier option.

Thank you SLO76 for your views and info. You have certainly made me think about it again. I keep hearing little snippets about how the Mokka isn't quite so great but I love how it looks. At the moment I have a Nissn Juke that I loathe and can't wait to get rid. I don't want to make the same mistake again. Also thinking about a Mitsubushi ASX diesel but hear bad things about them too. Will have a rethink.

Of the small modern SUVs, HJ seems to like the Suzuki Vitara with the 1.4 boosterjet petrol engine.

What's your budget and how many miles roughly are you doing in a year also what sort of driving do you do, Is it mostly local stop start running or longer distance?
I'm not a fan of the Juke either, it's quirky style over drivability and practicality. It's also basically a Renault Clio underneath and is likely to deteriorate at a similar rate. Certainly not a car to buy believing you'll experience Japanese levels of reliability.

check out a Dacia Duster 1.2 TCI turbo petrol in prestige trim
lots of kit, fantastic engine, more space inside than a Mokka and alot cheaper plus you can extend the warranty to 5 or 7 years.

I do around 10 to 15000 a year so a diesel is a must and my budget is around 25Kish. A girl can never have too many gadgets and to be honest I'm a little embarassed to admit this but it's a major factor (apart from keyless entry/start) on my decision to what I buy. The more gadgets the happier I am. My back is also not so good these days and the higher crossovers seem to help with getting in and out. I love the Kia Sportage but that is just too big for me. I've looked at the MG GS and I really liked it but no diesel as yet and again not good reviews. Toyota CHR due out early next year looks interesting but.... I'm starting to wonder if the reviews are just done on personal prefs and whilst one person thinks a car is rubbish another will find it fantastic. Should I really go by reviews? I'm so het up about making the same mistake as I did with this awful Juke.

I like the Sportage but if that's too large then one car springs to mind. The new Honda HRV.. It's a well made, comfortable, pleasant looking small SUV that's more compact than the Sportage and in top spec EX it has keyless entry and start and slots in within your budget.
The 1.6 DTEC diesel is an excellent engine, strong, quick revving for a diesel and amazing on fuel. We have it in our heavier CRV and we've never found it lacking and it manages to better 60mpg on a run which is outstanding for such a large vehicle, the lighter HRV will better this. The 1.5 petrol is fine around town and excellent on fuel for a petrol but it lacks torque for overtaking.
Honda also has a enviable reputation for reliability and the HRV is proving popular so it's likely to hold onto its value well. Combined with class leading economy it'll be very cost effective despite the high initial purchase price.
You're right regarding reviews. While they serve a useful purpose by comparing cars against rivals they also put too much focus on handling prowess which is largely irrelevant with regards to cars like this which aren't bought for their ability to post quick times on a racetrack or entertain on a B road blast.

Avoid the MG new at all costs! It's a cheaply made Chinese built budget car they sell over here with an MG badge and an inflated list price. Quality and driver enjoyment are at least a generation behind what we accept as the norm in Europe.
Depreciation will be horrific and it's highly unlikely that they'll ever be able to justify the high cost of developing a new Diesel engine or updating the old 1.9 from the MG6 which would be required to offer decent economy in an SUV like this.
If SAIC priced MG's in line with the likes of Dacia then they'd have a market but as the MG GS currently starts at over £5,000 more than the base model Dacia Duster it makes no sense at all new. As a used car in 3-5 years time they'll make a cheap alternative to mainstream SUV's but only if they prove mechanically reliable.
MG will either need to rethink their whole strategy in Europe or they'll eventually be forced to withdraw altogether. Once a customer who's paid say £17,500 for a mid spec GS finds out his/her car is next to worthless when they attempt to trade it in after 3 years they certainly won't buy another one.

Thanks DaveyK_UK for replying. I've looked at the Duster but it's not the one for me. I think I'd also like something bigger than a 1.2. My rubbish Juke is a 1.2 and I've had near misses where it's not had the power the pull away as fast as I'd like. Also found that when going up hills the engine is just not powerful enough.

How about a Kia Soul - looks not to everyone's taste, but good spec including keyless on some models. You could get an Approved Used one with 7 year warranty from when you buy it for about £15K.
I bought an approved used petrol one as our second car a couple of years ago beacuse it was cheap and had a long warranty and we've been very pleased with it.

Kate - I think you're on the edge of diesel cost-effectiveness, so I wouldnt say it's a must. Your budget would get you a SEAT Ateca or a VW Tiguan with the excellent 1.4 TSI petrol engine which is almost as economical as a diesel, much quieter and with excellent acceleration.
If you really want a diesel, go for one of these with the 2.0TDI engine, or the equally good Ford C-Max 2.0 TDCI..

I did test drive the auto 2.2L Mitsubushi ASX. I loved it but not the price quite so much. The gear changes seemed so smooth but it only came in a 4x4. As I have no intention of going off roading I didn't see the point in the extra cash.
