Circumstances change so Mrs No Dosh's Yaris is off the list for the moment, hopefully to rise again later this year or early next once the new C2 has dented prices a bit. Possibly.
Anyway, short term we are going to need to get her lovliness something to belt around in when I start my new job. The 1.25 Ghia Fiesta appeals on a number of levels, not least because it has a sporty ride, offers reasonable economy and there are quite a lot out there, so relatively affordable. The only time there will be a passenger it's likely to be mini-No Dosh, who, being all of 3 years old, takes little room.
Anyone got any views on this strategy and will £2.5k get a good un?

I think you'll struggle to find a good three year old for that price. Having just sold our 3 year old 1.25 Zetec for £3495, I know that the garages would charge around £1000+ for the same car. Visit your local BCA auction. Some good cars at great prices.

It can be done, if you don't mind a biggish miles, N or P plater privately. At auction, it could be your lucky day and you might get a 40k mile R plater. You'll be looking quite hard though as these cars aren't exactly plentiful or cheap when they do turn up.
They are very good though; possibly I'd actually look at an LX or Zetec to give me more choice and flexibility if a good one came up.

Fair point David. Did the LX or Zetec come with A/c? I was looking for maybe an R plate at auction (feeling brave) with a V5.
|
Nah, some better early LX models come with Leccy windows, central locking and a sunroof, the Zetec had alloys but no leccy windows IIRC.
The only ones that are very likely to have A/C is the Ghia models, although even on the early Ghia models this was an option.

Cheers Blue. Champagne tastes and a beer budget again, it would seem. Still going to try for a ghia with a/c if I can get one, always assuming things don't change again in the next 2 weeks!
|
Pre spring 98, the LX didn't even have electric windows or central locking.
You should be able to get a later one with those on it for your budget at auction; they also have plastic wheel trims with 'spokes' as opposed to the flatter ones on earlier cars, if you see what I mean, and a slightly less flat bonnet.
Quite a few 99 LXs would have had a/c on them, though they'll be at least the same price as a 97 or 98 Ghia.

My 1.25 LX has A/c, front E/W, C/L, heated screen, flip front stereo, PAS and it's a belting car. If anyone wants to buy it, email me at nsarX@lineone.net (omitting the X)

But make sure its not a leaking car, i have spent a bomb on it trying to fix it, and the Ford garage here in Wigan has no room for you as they have a load of leakers to fix, and not just the fiesta, a girl at work bought a Focus and she had it replaced by another one by Fords, my worry is where is this leaking Focus in somebodies showroom nice and dry.
|
I've not had any leak problems with mine (yet), just a long running corrosion problem with the passenger door seal area, which I will take it back to get fixed again soon.
Other than that I think it's a great car, No Dosh could do a lot worse, and he's definately chosen the right engine, what a quick little motor it is around the town in 2nd and 3rd gears. It wipes the floor with most other city traffic. :)
Nsar- your LX must be fairly new, 'cos the last ones came with loads of equipment, more than the early Ghias came with in fact.
I think you may find something close, but not a Ghia, the closest that I could get was:
1998 FORD FIESTA 1.25 Zetec 3dr Hatchback
1998 (S) Metallic Blue. Air Conditioning, Alloy wheels, Anti theft system, Central locking, Driver airbag, Power assisted steering, Spoiler, Full Service History. 64000 miles. £2800.
I saw the picture and it looked *smart*

it's a 5door June 99 T with 33,000 miles, metallic blue, no alloys or spoiler though. I think I'm giving it away looking at this one. It's yours for £3,200 - no offers

It\'s certainly a good price. Wrong end of the country though :o(
|
Wotcha think of the one from the AT NoDosh? Is it closer to the mark? I don't know where it is, but I'm in Sunderland and it's 150 miles from me.

Something horribly wrong with the AT site. Keeps telling me that there are no Fiestas of any price anywhere in country.
Looks like they are in demand, or the site has fallen over.
