I keep hearing this 'bible' mentioned but have no idea how you can get hold of a copy (if indeed you can). Seems to me that if everyone read a copy then the motoring world would be a hoopier place.

I got it in one of my local libraries, am considering possibly buyin a copy so I can have it for eternal reference but I'm sure that's because I'm just very 'sad'

I don't think you're sad at all. Since when can voluntary self-improvement be classed as sad? Unfortunately I'm banned from my local library (not because I exposed myself in the gardening section - I still have a copy of The Day Of The Triffids with a return by date of April 1995) so I could do with buying a copy. I keep seeing a full page ad in FHM, Maxim and the like for a book that the police wanted to ban and rather I didn't see. I presume, therefore, that it's a load of scallops. Any b-roomers care to elaborate?

At last!!! Someone has recognised the 'frood' and 'hoopy' references! I wouldn't say I'm an obsessive fan, but I can think of worse ways of spending an evening than wacking HHGTTG on the old DVD! (The radio series was far superior though)
Remember - you should always know where your towel is.

My tapes from the radio (circa 1970s) have finally died a very slooowwwww death (by stretching) but glad to see that BBC have brought these out on CD so we have THHGTTG all the way to Cumbria and back. Our three year old is starting to recite it in the same way that she learns nursery rhymes!

I have moved with the times, I have the whole of the radio series as mp3 files :-) nicked off a student that had left a copy in some temporary file space. Sometimes they have their uses! Still prefer the book really. To get it back to motoring, I wonder why Douglas chose Ford Prefect as opposed to any other car. Austin Seven would have made an excellent name, if a little James Bond (great cars in that too!)

I cheated by copying and pasting it but I do speak Welsh, badly (I thought that the ll before the hyphen was a ch, but other than that, can spell it)

Longest word? Well, think yourself lucky you are not a doctor having to try to pronounce

or even worse a chemist like me (not the pill dispensing type) where long words are something of a daily occurrence. How about the chemical name for the tobacco mosaic virus which has 1913 letters!! (no, I am not going to put them all here)

FiF, I haven't yet but I'm going to soon - along with buying my own copy of "Roadcraft". THey're the kind of things I'll probably still dip into from time to time after about 5 or more years. Yes, it's sad.

I have read the Highway Code signs section several times over the last few years, and each time I forget the less obvious ones after a few weeks. So I could spend most of my life reading the Highway Code, or I could come to the realisation that I will never know what some signs mean. It does seem to me a bit of a failing if the rules of the road are too complex for all but a few.
