Does anyone know how much torque the Megane 8v 1.6 engine puts out? I know its 90bhp - but I can't find the torque figure anywhere.

137 Nm according to Google. I've also looked in the original sales brochure for my 89 R19 1.7, and that produces 134 Nm and I'd expect the two figures to be fairly close.

I have one of these - 100 ft lb if I remember. But it's a very flexible engine to drive, with lots of low down torque. I average about 43 mpg, up to 47 mpg on a long run, much better than my other car, a 16v Astra 1.6 with similar output, which does about 39mpg and feels a lot slower in everyday use, unless you take it beyond 4000 rpm, which I hardly ever need to in the Megane.
