I don't believe my Omega 3.0 MV6 takes £50 worth, you must pay a lot for yours!

For work reasons I enter all details into a spreadsheet whenever I buy fuel. I always brim it from about 1/4 full. The worst tankfull (barring when I wa towing) was about 21 mpg, the best in the high 28s. My driving is a pretty good mix of town and motorway, but the 28s are definitely motorway cruising.

In my experience the trip computer consumption figure is ambitious by up to 4 mpg or more, compared to what I know I've put in. And yes, I nearly always use the same petrol station so the amount I need to fill is roughly the same each time...

I tried a couple of tanks of Optimax but seeing as there was no noticeable difference I use regular unledaed.

There is no doubt that hard driving around town will cane consumption. See the instant consumption figure around 7 mpg when accelerating!

I average much more than that (high 20s/low 30s) but if I spend a week around town it can certainly dip to the kind of levels you're getting. Bear in mind that most of the time I drive reasonably gently. Also, are you moving your carload of equipment around with you? That'd hit consumption.

Give it a spin on a motorway and you should (sub 80) find it's getting up around 30, though I don't know if an estate is a little less economical than a saloon; if so, you might not get above 30.

Yes it can! I could get 15 mpg around town with the 3.0litre, and that was more economical than the 2.6 rental that I have at the moment.

Wow. Do you use the full range of gears? :-)

If I struggle I could get mine down to 15 I suppose. It's a lot of car to get moving away from lights etc, and I tend to be gentle with it (unless provoked!)

Smokie,
No, don't have a very heavy right foot. Actually, I don't think the Omega was particularly bad economy wise, e.g averaged 19 mpg on the computer towing 1500kilo caravan from Le Havre around Paris to Clermont Ferrand and back. But 15 mpg purely around town - to be fair this is usually very short journey times. Oh and its an auto, and a very heavy car 1800kilos according to the handbook.

Ahhhh...I bet auto makes quite a difference. The MV6 is MUCH better than the old auto Rover 2.7 I used to have.

When towing my caravan it seems much MUCH more economical to stay around 60mph in 3rd or 4th than travel at 70 and use 5th, which is well within it's reach (although probably illegal, even abroad). Elapsed journey time doesn't suffer much either...

Dear fellow omega owner (the musician?)

Pardon me, but are you driving in wellington boots?

I have a 2.5 Auto saloon, I do 160 pink fluffy dice miles EVERY DAY admitedly most of it is motorway. I treat BOTH PEDALS as fuel-wasting devices and only press either of them when necessary. Cruise is a great help, and avoiding speeds which only attracts OTHER MV6 owners with colourful paint jobs (if you know what I mean...)

I get 35MPG from mine.

If you practice \"first to the next set of red lights\" driving in town, er, you\'ll get less.

I do enjoy the omega.I call it my \"Armchair\" Only problem is the seat heater has gone, but then I was never too comfortable with the pink fluffy dice it produced anyway...

Don\'t be clever and think you can defeat the swear filter with numbers instead of letters of the alphabet DD
