getting new V5 - looking4car
I've been looking at ford focus at auction.

I see one which is on sale tomorrow which is exactly what i want

1.6 Zetec 3dr, 51 reg 16k miles

haven't seen it yet but if spotless i'd be happy to pay 7,300 plus auction fees

Thing is it has no V5 document, nothing dodgy, it is being sold by reliable auction house on behalf of Ford Credit.

I guess the owner has not teturned it to finance house, maybe it has been repossesed.

If I bought it how long would it take to put on the road.

No V5 , no road tax ;-(

what is the procedure and how long does it take ?

any shortcuts ?

about 6 weeks, I understand. Although I haven;t done it myself.

I bought 2 cars with no V5 in 2002, took 3 weeks in both cases for the new V5 to arrive. Could be longer in the runup to new regulations. But no problem - take your insurance cover note to the PO and fill in the form (V10?) to get it taxed and the V5 will arrive.
Go for it, don't look too interested but look serious, don't let them run you up. Book clean is £7k exactly for 10k miles and dealer interest should have gone before then.
Good luck and let us know.

I bought a car in Novemeber and it took less than two weeks. I bought one n January and I still haven;t received the new V5.

Also, at BCA in Blackbushe they have a leaflet which describes the new process and states that the new process not only takes 6 weeks, but that it is intended to do so.

I'll try and find the leaflet, its around somewhere.

And the relevant bit...

\"However, if the V5 is not available, complete a V62 registration form and send it to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1DD. Please bear in mind it may take up to six weeks to send you a V5 if the previous keeper hasn\'t told us that they\'ve sold the vehicle.\"

And after *that* you can go and get your \'road tax\'...

sounds like too much hassle, time to look elsewhere I think.

If it is a repo, the customer didn't do themselves any favours by not handing back the V5. It could knock a grand or more of the final value.
