I sympathise but can't help much, modern cars seem to be rubbish. I have a Peugeot 406 from 2001 which has covered 235,000 miles and still has the original clutch and DMF.

If you've gone through 2 DMF's in less than 30k miles / 3 years, then you're either incredibly unlucky, or are lacking in any mechanical sympathy.

Ford seem to build pretty decent clutches / DMFs. Certainly not something that regularly comes up as a problem on these forums, considering the numbers of cars they make.

Well they should be coming up more regularly;i have had exactly the same problem with the same model. I have a 2011 Mondeo mk4 with 96000 on the clock and 2 days ago had to replace my 3rd dual mass costing £1000.

I'm basically achieving about 30k before the damn thing falls apart;i've been driving 30 years and never had this problem before.

There is something seriously wrong with this engine

Ford seem to be a company that do not know the meaning of 'goodwill' and 'integrity' so many issues with clutches and DMF units that sometimes even in the warranty periods Ford will not address and do the right thing. I know of a Ford focus owner that has had a DMF failure in 7 months of ownership from buying brand new and Ford do not want to know. The only way they would listen is by getting the DMF inspected independently and going through the small claims court should a manufacturing defect be detailed on the independent report.

Sadly these DMF issues seem to be increasing and the bill faced by owners is not insiginficant.

I do not wish to negative to the figures mentioned but do you have any official figures to back this up? A quick Google search seems to indicate that the clutch and DMF issues are accross Europe and certainly raised in various forums.

Many owners that are having these early Ford DMF failures have driven other makes of cars for decades without having such early failures surely they cannot all be bad drivers with no clutch awareness?!

The MK4 Mondeo also had the premature power steering failures when Ford changed suppliers and the rubber seal did break down clogging the system often leaving the owner with a £1k bill, this fault is well documented on the web do the research. Again with that issue Ford did not want to know outside warranty. Many perspective Ford purchasers are becoming aware of the companies resistence to often fail to deal with genuine warranty claims and early failures just outside of warranty.
