Last year there used to be a regular thread on Salvage Squad (it usually degenerated into a discussion on the number of rivets in a scuttle plate! ) Isnt anyone bothering with watching it this year?
Last night was a very nice 3 wheel Morgan...complete if a little the worse for wear.
Mind you I didnt go much for the brushpainting the aluminium bodywork without (apparently) using an aluminium primer. Wish they had covered more on the drive train mechanics rather than the leaf springs which have been covered on other restorations.

I saw the second half of the morgan show last night. (PLaying squash 'till 8:30.)
In the past we pointed out the flaws in this show but decided it was better than nothing.
Last night's was good. I wonder why they didn't use a magnet to retrieve the push rod?
Love morgans 3 wheelers. THere are two withing 1 mile of me! Cracking machines.

I also love the moggies, both 4 and 3 wheeler....not sure about the aero8 yet though.
Best sight of a moggie rally was over 100 in concourse condition lined up outside the Sydney Opera House in 1991....still got the photos somewhere.

I thought it was awful, especially the part with the one guy who'd become an expert ally beater just for the show.
I saw the one the other week as well with the Blackpool Tram being restored.
The show, IMO, is rubbish.

There does seems to be a certain amount of bodging that goes on. Take last night for instance when trying to fit the new body panels. "Oh no we've hit another screw. That's alright just move the drill and drill down the side of it"
No wonder they don't let the owners see the actual restoration work, just the finished article. Wonder how many onwers cringe when they see the tv prog?
I wouldn't say it's rubbish, but there does seem a certain amount of "Blue Peter" trickery involved. ie, here's one we made earlier. In other words here's one someone else has done and we'll just add the finishing touches for the camera.

Right lets get this into perspective. We got 1 hour of Morgan. We\'ve also had tiger moth, girocopter and a few classic cars all covered from a technical angle.
Now we all agree it\'s not done well but the alternative to Salvage Squad isn\'t a better classic vehicle/plane/train restoration show. It\'s a celebrity makeover show.
I thank my luck stars for salvage squad, it\'s one of the rare breaks my hi-fi & and reading glasses get in these day\'s of terrible TV.

Watched first 75% then the phone went and I missed the rest.
As Toad says better than not being on at all. I did cough at the painting though. Less trouble than I'm going to with the old LR.
I'm amazed there is a paint for alloy without a primer being required. And you don't take the brush strokes in the way that suits you the most...they go up and down on a vertical panel for very good reason.

I thought the powder coating part was good. It's a program that could do with one less set of adverts, less repetition by Suggs, and a bit more in-depth explanation of what's going on, but then it would be a different show.

I'm soooo glad nobody has spoilt the taped edition for me by letting the cat out of the bag where the scuttle plates came in. Must be the light alloy versions. ;-)
Last weeks tram show amused me as always, there they were slapping cream coach paint on with a brush, and when the tram comes out a finish that would do credit to the multi million coat, paint - flat down, paint - flat down, reiterate 18 times that they used to do on trams. Take a look at the National Tramway Museum in Crich to see what I mean.

Actually I thought much of the work on the moggie might have been done by the squad. [1]
I suspect it wasn't though.
