Hi all!

There maybe someone out there who might have experienced similar issues than i am.

Got an 89 205 with 1.4 engine. The problem is that it used to run really well, but after replacing one alternator brush problem started. Not right after but few time went past and then after warming up the car dies and loses spark. When it's still cold, runs smoothly, but as soon as the temperature rises to certain level (warming it up like 10 minutes), engine cuts off and wont start again. Replaced coil but problem continues. I've tested if the spark is present on the coil side (the central cable) and it's there when it's cold but after warming up, no spark no more.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

This probably has an electronic ignition distributor with an ignition module bolted to the side of the dizzy or on the cylinder head,or possibly a fault with the pick up in the distributor.

yes, it does have ignition module on the side of the distributor. Is it possible to test module some how?

The module can be tested with the right equipment,the problem is finding somebody that has it.A new module is probably not very expensive .

Remove the module and clean the base of it as well as the distributor body to where the module mounts. It's essential to smear some heat compound between the joint so make sure you do before you refit it. If the compound has dried out the module will overheat causing intermittent failure. A new module will come with a sachet of compound.

Would it make any difference if i connect those Phase Imp+ and Phase Imp- connectors that come from distributor or somewhere, with a cable and place the module somewhere else? As in that case the heat wont be on issue anymore. Does the module bottom needs to be connected to the distributor for Ground?

Hi!

Seems like the ignition module is the one that causing it indeed. It just not cooling it down. Quick fix was that we took off the module from distributor body, put on some wires to connect Phase cables and added extra copper sheet, that's bended, to be as a cooling device. Looks like it rolls well for now. Quite unfortunate that it's cristmas time and new part will probably arrive sometime in next week.
