Hi all,

I bought the zafira 6 months ago. At the time there was a slight whining noise that would change pitch when you reved the engine. It didn't happen all the time and I let my dad convince me it was nothing to worry about.

Anyway the other day while driving in 3rd, the power dropped and I could hear a screeching like when the fan belt goes. I turned off the fans and power was restored. The car drives fine, but as soon as I put the fans on there's screeching and no power. When I turn on the fans when the car is idol, it feels like it's going to stall. As soon as I turn them off all is well. Does any one have any ideas. Also I think I should mention that the AC wasn't on, just the regular fans.

First thing I would do is have the alternator belt checked in case its breaking up or loose, if its loose it will need adjusting or possibly replaced depending on its condition, if that is not the problem then its likely the alternator is at fault
