Hyundai gets 1300 gsi 2004 petrol - start up noise on Hyundai getz - superad

Just bought a lovely Gets which runs great. Just one issue, when starting from cold it makes a cruch sound which lasts for about a second. It sounds like cars used to years ago if you turned the key too far. Only happens on a cold start. Car starts up fine with no hesitation at all and runs and drives like new. It is fitted with a more powerful battery, don't know if that makes a difference. Cars only done 21k with FSH so its probably done a lot of short journeys.

Any ideas what this could be?

Perhaps it is the recoil from the starter motor.?Dried out bush on starter pinion?

I think what you mean is keep key on starter too long, engine starts but key still on starter position

Turns out its ring gear problem. Garage fitted a new starter motor today and the problem is now much worse. They quoted £650 to fix and won't give me the original starter motor back unless I pay a £61 surcharge. Is this normal? They charged me £135 for the motor but now say this is based on them selling the old part but when Iook online I can buy a new on from europarts for £140.00.

I have had to take the car elsewhere to get sorted and feel a bit stitched up really. The car started fine when they started work on it, yes it had a noise to i

t but after I collected it it was much worse. £215 for nothing really.

Anyway found a guy to fix it for £250 .
