ford focus 1.6 zetec petrol 2006 - thermostat - dj1603

My focus's temp gauge stays right down when the car is moving but when idle it raises to normal operating temp.the heaters blow out hot when the car is stationery and still warm when moving.I think the thermosat needs replacing but the aut***op said they come with the housing and cost £140.is it possible to just buy a thermostat and fit it in the housing thats on the car if it is definitley the thermostat.the car has recently started spluttering when cold is it because of the cold weather with the dodgy thermostat?

The engine coolant needs to reach operating temp asap for max efficiency.Your thermostat looks suspect.Unfortunately, in common with a lot of modern day cars ,the stat is incorporated into a plastic housing and is not re-newable as a seperate part. You could try a local motor factor to seeif an alternative part is available.

No. That will be the tappets. Solid on the 1.6 Focus engine and need checking and shimming (iif necessary) every (from memory) 60,000 miles. Easy to check, a pig to shim unles you have the Ford tool and a box of shims.

If its only slight don't bother.

But sometimes an injector can make a tapping/ticking noise on startup as well. Can be difficult to tell which it is.
