Rover Heater Fan Problem - JohnS
I have a 1998 Rover 400. The heater fan only works on settings 3 and 4. I've dismembered the rotary switch and it seems to be making contact for all 4 settings. Any ideas? Is the Rover 400 prone to electrical glitches or am I just unlucky (the rear screen heater's also defective - see previous entry if you can help)?
Cheers, John.

Rear heated screen will be the MFU.

No doubt the lights on warning and the interior light will be behaving strangely too.

These are my own opinions, and not necessarily those of all Toads.

Yep. Replaced the MFU and all is well. Many thanks.

Would imagine your blower resistor has given up the ghost. Maybe water in there, maybe the blowers seizing and drawing too much current, maybe just a duff one.

Pull it out and take a look at the resistor wires and check for continuity.

John, I also have the same problem on a 97 rover 220 diesel, the fan will work on ¾ but not on ½ have you sorted your problem out yet ?

Chris,
Yes. I replaced the resistor pack which is located on top of the fan - problem solved. In case you're not sure where it is, the fan is on the left behind the glove box. Remove the glove box, then the cable leading to the top of the fan casing near the front. The resistor plate is held by a screw to either side of the socket. You'll find a break in one of the three coils. The part from a main dealer is just over £20. I'm told this is a common problem.
Cheers, John.

john, i replaced the resistor pack today and it works fine, many thanks. chris

Chris, make sure your blower motor turns freely, otherwise it will be drawing too much current and you'll be putting in a new resistor every week.
