Batteries can die very suddenly. Happened with boy's Panda, just the same.

Could be that, or just flat. Did you leave anything switched on?

Check battery terminal and earth cable connection to the body first, that's easy, and free.

If you have a meter put it across the terminals too - you should see 12.2-12.7V if there is aany reasonable amount of charge in it. If it's under 12V, it's either flat or kaput.

I'd check the earth points next.

12.6 volts is at the very bottom end of an acceptable charge. A healthy battery will have 12.7 volts in the morning after a nights layup.

But even a knackered battery can show a decent voltage. You need to put a meter across the battery whilst starting the car. A healthy battery will show near 11 volts, anything less than 10 volts and its time to spend.

Once running initially the voltage across the battery should be in the region of 14.4 volts (possibly dropping to 14.2 volts after a run with a hot engine) with a healthy alternator but modern ones can be much higher..

Rather than guess get it into A Bosch service centre. They will diagnose the problem in minutes.
