Volkswagen Passat 2010 - LED Rear Lights - Andyellis

Hi

Has anyone ever had trouble with the rear lights on this car? VW Passat 2010 Estate Highline 2.0TDI.

Recently it was pointed out to me that sections of the light was flickering, going out when it should be on and other odd behaviour.

I arranged with my dealer for the car to be looked at ( Harlow Volkswagen ). Using "guided fault finding" ( their words ) and found that all feeds supplies and earths to lamps OK, and that both rear lights were faulty and needed replacing. This turned out to be a very expensive job.

I was not pleased and when I queried this, the dealership as goodwill allowed approx 10% discount. All VW Customer care have to say is that the vehicle is out of warranty. Is this the high standard of workmanship that VW prides itself on??

Yes LEDs lights seam like progress but turn a 20p replacement bulb in to a £150 repair. Most likely if you take the light out you will find a poor solder joint.

I had a golf that LED indicators that stopped working. It took about an hour to fix as the Indicators are no longer intended to be repaired, but saved me a large bill.

Sounds about right.My neighbour has a Bmw cabrio and one of the tail lights stopped working.Thank you sir ,that will be £125 for a new lamp,as it has integrated led cluster.Progress?

So much for German engineering then, or is it just cheap components bought from China, reminds me of "never mind the quality feel the width" !!

Just frustrated that both failed at more or less the same time and VW not interested!!

Oh forgot to add, to take out the lights apparentlyrequires a special tool.

The only special tool required for this job,is the one that extracts the credit card from your wallet!

Expensive Fiestas have LED DRL's-dealer repair only.Cheaper Fiestas use H15 bulbs for DRL which anyone can replace in seconds.

LED lighting for domestic use generally boast of a ten-year life-span and so many hundreds of thousands of on-off switching cycles before they fail. LED lights on cars just don't seem to last very long. Funny, that.

Funny, that.

Some of us have been suggesting for some time now that cars are being increasingly designed with a far less than 10 year life span, every silly toy that gets added, though seemingly desired* by new car buyers/users, puts another nail in their coffins.

*Are these things really desired by new car buyers, or do they just toddle along to the showroom and choose another automotive washing machine, oblivious to the throwaway junk they are buying into.
