Ford Zetec. Petrol. 1.4. 2004 year model. - Rubbing noise at low speed from engine. - otter valley

At very low speeds, that is below 30 mpg and usually when I have taken the foot of the accelerator pedal, I get an intermittent low rubbing noise that sounds like a belt rubbing perhaps?

Car mileage is 98500.

A worn belt was replaced in 2011. The car has recently passed its MOT and had the clutch replaced at Ford Service centre outside Nottingham.

I do not think it is the brakes as car brakes quite normally and does show any odd characteristics when driving.

Low rubbing noise is intermittent usually when you take foot of accerallator pedal. Not when acellarator pedal is depressed or going at speed at all.

Any ideas please?

Assuming you've checked belts, tyres and other items for visible signs of damage and found none, I'd suspect a front wheel bearing.

Find a car park and turn both ways forward and reverse on full lock (but back the wheel off just enough to prevent the pump overworking). If you can hear the bearing rumbling drop the windows one at a time to see if you can identify which side.

Thank you I will check it.
