C220 CDi Sport Auto - Mercedes Benz Gearbox fault - RSTurbo50

I have a 2006 C220 CDi Sport Auto. The car has 111500 miles and I purchased it two weeks ago from a garage. Today after driving to my mums, the car was warmed up and I put my footdown on adual carriageway, first time Iv really had chance to do this. The car picked up well and it was only when I approached some traffic lights I noticed a fault.

As I pulled away from the lights, it felt like the car was stuck in 3rd gear and it wouldnt change up or down I also tried to press the Sport button but it remained in comfort. I got to my mums, switched it all off and then restarted it 5 mins later. I took the car for a drive and all was well once more.

Now I have a warranty with the car and will be speaking to them on Monday.

Is this a common fault and has anyone any idea of what it maybe and would it be costly to fix?

Also, Iv noticed that when pulling away from a standing start, it feels like you are always starting off in 2nd gear but I was thinking this was normal as its in comfort mode?

Really concerned as I have only had the car two weeks and so far I have loved it.

Any advice?

What is the history of transmission fluid changes?

I don't have any receipts or invoices to say the gearbox oil has been changed though the car has a fully stamped service book. I'm told it maybe a speed sensor fault?

Regarding the 'fully stamped service book' do bear in mind that a lot of cars do not have any servicing listed for gearbox oil changes. Manufacturers would rather you had to buy a new gearbox every few years at a cost of thousands (or even better, end up scrapping the car), rather than you spending a few hundred on a gearbox oil and filter change.

How much would a gearbox oil change be at a local Indy out of interest?

Its absolutely nothing to do with the oil its a faulty control module .The garage where you bought it are obliged to put it right and I am sure they will.

I'm going to speak to the warranty company on Monday. How much would a new control module be or a gearbox oil and filter change be out of interest?

Firstly, nobody can absolutely diagnose a problem like this over the internet, on what has been described. For someone to say that it is problem X is impossible. It might be LIKELY to be problem X, or they might have seen cars with similar issues that turned out to have problem X, but that's it.

Get the details of a local independent MB specialist, and take it to them to ask their opinion. They will also be able to give you a quote for a gearbox oil/filter change, and changing the gearbox oil and filter would be MY first step, on a car of that mileage and age. Quite simply, that oil will be largely degraded by now, and as oil degrades, it doesn't lubricate as well.Whatever else might go wrong with the car, now or in the future, changing that gearbox oil and filter will give that box a great deal of extra life.

You can describe symptoms on here, and get opinions as to what is wrong. That is all they are though, opinions.

Cheers for that. How much would a transmission oil and filter change be out of interest?

I would not jump at a gearbox fault so soon. It could be an engine management problem.Any issue here can cause gearbox performance problems.
