Ford Fiesta - Whistle in the engine only when accelerating - djsnax
Driving home had no problems, filled up at tescos as usual. Then started to hear a whistle in the engine , but only when I accelerated. Called a mobile mechanic who I have used once before. He said he thought it was the turbo, and took it to two other mechanics for a 2nd and 3rd opinion. They said the turbo needs replacing as well as the sump. £650. He asked if it is serviced regularly. It has been serviced every 10,000 and had been serviced 6 months ago. The oil I use to top it is 5w30. I use kwik fit to service the car. I don't know what sort of oil they use.

Any advice.? I am going to be ringing around for other quotes today

Thanks

Often a whistling sound is a result of an air leak or an exhaust leak near a turbo.

You need to use the correct 5w30 oil in these engines. Kwik Fit (and other similar places) will simply use the cheapest oil they have in stock, may be 5w30, possibly not. Topping up with the corrrect oil will do no harm but will do no good either.

Suggest you get the car serviced somewhere where the use the correct grade oil etc. rather than the cheapest.
