I have a 1999 1.4 Polo. When accelerating in 2nd 3rd gear uphill at about 2000 to 3000RPM I get a high pitched buzzy noise, thought it was exhaust or water pump but not that any ideas it does not affect power?

Does it make the noise between 2000,3000 rpm in and other gear or on the flat. Does it make the noise going up hill because of the load or is it the inclination that is exciting the noise. Can you feel the buzz in the gear stick or clutch pedal. Regards Peter

Hi Peter
it is between 2 and 3000 rpm can't feel anything through gearbox or clutch. The buzz seems to be ther regardless of number in car, but have noticed that on very cold mornings it does not happen.

Hi,
Either the alternator of more serious, but easier, to check The timing Belt. I'm concerned it may be running off centre and is rubbing the cover. Take a look inside for runnings or a frayed edge. Peter
