Wheel alignment after new front shocks? - delboy100
Should the wheel alignment be checked after installing new front strut inserts? (...struts taken off to install I think?)

Many thanks

I would recommend this.

I've never done it, and never had a noticeable tracking problem as a result. If you not actually changing the settings of track rods etc. I can't see that there's a need.

If you do, let it settle for a few weeks first.

Deffinately. If the alignment is out you risk wrecking the front tyres, and driving with significantly less grip than normal. Best to ring around local garages that can do a four wheel alignment. I know a couple- where do you live?

Should not be necessary, unless any of the ball joints or adjustable rods had to be disturbed to do the change.

Delboy,

You haven't said what car you are referring to but I haven't come across any where the wheel alignment could be disturbed simply by changing the strut inserts. I think that Cyd has highlighted the only possibility where this could happen.

The only thing I would watch for is that the road springs are replaced in the same position because these are sometimes fitted a certain way round (e.g. with the lower extremity directly inboard with the wheels facing straight ahead).

David.

Some cars camber is set by the strut top and must be reset but in general I would always check/adjust camber, castoer and tracking and a month later I would revisit the tracking as it does settle. Peter
