The i40 is a good car I have driven a lot of them, most were the 1.7 diesel which is a very good engine. They do use abit of oil but nothing major and do have a low oil level light to remind you. If you do less than 10k a year it will need a oil and filter change to stop oil degradation if you do more its service interval is two years or 20k.

Transmission is good just dont ride the clutch if you drive normally ie dont hold it on hills with the clutch it will be fine. They do have hill start assist and auto hold if need. The auto with paddle shift is very good with dual clutch its quite responsive.

Mpg is 99% down to the driver if you drive eco you get 50 plus mpg but if you start going over the speed limits it will drop.

Fit and finish are good some of the leather trim on the gear knob and steering wheel wears but only on early car and will be replaced by warranty .

They do have problems but nothing major on the later cars and nothing not covered by warranty.

Hyundai have given it a five year warranty which covers a comprehensive amount of things which most manufactures dont cover after the first 12 months so that shows somthing.

All in all very good!

Take one for a drive and see for yourself.

I'm on my second i40. They are good cars but very expensive to fix!

MPG - should average well above 50 with 60+ easily achievable.

clutch and pressure plates seem to be a real headache at the minute. hyundai have made many modifications and to date can't seem to fix the problem. Same issue is happening with its sister car the kia optima. also watch out for failing clutch regulators, master slave cylinders, heater blowers, and car pulling to the left!

as said before the diesel engine is a great unit and very easy to work on if you diy service. Everything is within reach and the fuel filter has a self primer.

I would recommend them providing you don't go for the 2011 models. Watch out for clocking!! Seems to be a hot fav at the min for obvious reasons!
