I wouldn't worry. It's a sort of mystical way that VWs have of connecting with their owners.

Is it all a normal part of the alarm system?
I work abroard and my golf spends most of the year sitting in my parents garage. I think the alarm unit got damp one time because the electrics developed a mind of their own. The indicators stopped working, the hazards would come on even when switched off and the one sidelight would stay on if you locked it and walked away (flat battery scenario). For some reason even the rear wiper developed strange habits. I turned off the alarm unit and everything fixed itself.
I don't know if the alarm is knackered or if it can be fixed with a spell under a hairdryer and cleaning the connectors.

Steve, sounds like your (IN)convenience unit is twitchy. Hope it doesn't get worse: about £200 fitted from your friendly main agent. It's under the carpet in front of the passenger seat: I guess you could have a look and make sure its not wet. On ours (same model year) indicators came on, and stayed on, until I disconnected the battery.

Ah, now I understand why you are concerned. An alarm specialist would be a good bet. In the meantime, for God's sake don't park near an airport!
