Ford Fiesta - 2001 Ford Fiesta 1.25 running on three cylinders - dodo

Bought an immaculate 50k mile Fiesta 1.25 Flight (2001) as a Christmas present for my daughter to learn to drive in. I have known the car from new and i drove it home at the end of November and left in the garage. This morning with L plates on and trepidation in heart off we went on a driving lesson. However the car started running only three cylinders and lesson was abandoned after 100 yards. I checked leads/plugs etc but the car is only running on three cylinders with No2 being main suspect. Coil pack? Thanks

Usually if coil pack fails (wasted spark / 2coil) then you tend to drop to two cylinders and not three. Is the engine management light on? Try a new set of plugs.

So car was running fine when you parked it up in November? Was yesterday the first time it had been started or has it been started and moved in and out of the garage?

My thought is it may just need a while to get going again and may clear if you take it a bit further than 100yds. Perhaps some damp has got in. New plugs and leads will only set you back £20 on ECP.

You can prove a possible coil issue by swapping out the leads to cyls 2 and 3.hth

Thanks for response and will try the 2/3 leads late. I took the car out for a 5 mile run and yes three cylinders and not two. Engine light flashes whatever that means and local auto factors closed so couldn't try 4 new spark plugs.
