Citroen Berlingo 1.6 hdi - Fuel rail pressure low- fault code P1113 - Karl M G

Hi, i've got a bit of a troublesome problem with my 2006 Berlingo 1.6 hdi.

The problem started about a week ago, when the engine gets warm and you go above 2500rpm the engine starts to splutter and cut out. At first when i took it to my mechanic he couldn't get a fault code. Then the next day on way home it spluttered to a halt and the engine light came on.

After sitting for a couple of mins, managed to get back to the garage on limp mode ( about 700yds at a time before it stopped again.

This time it threw up the fault code P1113 Fuel rail pressure sensor- low pressure

As it had a new fuel filter 8 weeks ago and suspecting a dodgy injector, as it had been leaking for a short while, the injectors were removed, tested ( 2 ended up being reconditioned) and refitted.

After that he put another new fuel filter on, just in case other one was faulty.

Still no luck so today he fitted a new fuel pressure regulator (i think thats what it's called)

No joy! He thinks there is air getting into the system, as he replaced a bit of the fuel pipe with a clear piece and after every engine run you can see some air come through the pipe when you bleed it with the hand primer pump.

It starts fine from cold and doesn't seem to show the problem until it gets warm, but i don't normally rev it too high when it's cold anyway.

We are both at our wits end, and me at the bottom of my wallet.

Please anyone, any ideas?

Thanks

Sorry, forgot to mention, today after a test run it threw in fault code P0087 on top of P1113

You may well find that its the HP pump that's faulty, I had a problem with my C5, it was getting more and more difficult to start from cold but it would eventually but it refused to start when hot. As the engine warms up the viscosity of the fuel decreases which makes it more difficult for a worn pump to pressurise. I fitted a secondhand pump from ebay, cost me £55 works fine now.

Thanks for suggestion, much appreciated.

My mechanic doesn't seem to think it's the HPP because it's starts fine in all weather and because of the air keep getting in.

I was going to buy a secondhand one , but he's not keen on fitting anything but new.

At the price of a new one i'd like to be more sure before adding another £600+ to the already overgrown bill.

I read that they need reprograming to match the ECU, how did you get on with yours?

Thanks again.

I thought these had a pre-pump in the tank , that's where I would look !

Thanks,

I don't think they have, but i'll get him to take check.

We even tried a test run without the fuel cap, to make sure it wasn't causing a vaccum.

Actually, i think i have seen a low pressure pump for a berlingo on sale somewhere, i'll definately need to check, thanks.

Is there anyway to test it, if there is one?

Disconnect the fuel flow pipe from the fuel filter ( there will also be a return pipe ), direct it into a container then turn on the ignition but not as far as operating the starter. The tank pump should run for about 2 seconds & pump out maybe 1/4 pint of fuel.

Thanks, i will give it a go as soon as i can.

Really appreciate all advice.

I think whether it has a tank pump or not depends on the system, I believe Bosch systems have a pump but Delphi don't, certainly worth checking though.

Mine has bosch injectors, don't know whether that means it's a bosch system or not, but citroen have said that mine doesn't have a tank pump.

Apparently, the fact my system has a hand primer pump indicates that it doesn't have a tank pump.

So i guess it's time to look for the next possible solution.

How was this issue solved? Was it solved?

had this s*** of an engine on the focus 2. Your problem is the fuel filter. Change it, prime it, start the car.
Dont waste your money on fuel pump and injector. The leak is form the copper sealers. Car doesent have a tank pump so you need to manyaly prime the fuel filter after change. Use compresor to presurize tank and when fuel exits filter connect hose to engine
