Hi everyone, I'm looking for an big family car or an estate within a budget of just £4000. It needs to have a boot big enough for associated luggage for my business.I'm currently driving an Audi A3, 3 doors, 1.9, 09 so I would like something similar in terms of driving experience.

I was looking at Audi A4 Avant 1.8 and Mazda 6 2.o petrol but I'm not really sure. I'm not bothered about fuel consumption as I do low mileage and I plan to keep the next car only for few years. I alos came across Saab 9-3 but I know they stipped production so maybe will be difficlut to find spares?

I did plenty of research and my head is buzzing now...Can anyone share their experience with the above mentioned cars or suggest any other cars?

Saabs are cheap because they are out of production, but there is quite a lot of spares commonality with other GM brands (Vauxhall / Opel) so it's not too bad.

I'm only saying this because I had one, but get a Mazda 6. I had two years of cheap, trouble free, comfortable motoring out of my 1.8l petrol. They have some very nice features too; Bose stereo, proper flat folding seats and they handle very nicely. I only got rid because I wanted a MX-5 and one came up at the right price (sticking with Mazda was a good idea too).

Edit - quick peek on Autotrader suggests that you'll get a Mazda 6 2.0 on a 56/07 plate with average mileage for about £3900, but there are some real bargains out there. An Audi A4 for the same price will be 52/03 plate with high mileage.

thanks. I like the design of the Saab and also I heard that petrol engines are on average quite good. However I think mazda 6 2.0 could be more reliable than Saab... I jus came across Toyota avensis d4d with some good reviews and within budget.

I had the 2.0 petrol and now have a mazda 3 with the same engine

About 6 months or so ago (maybe a year) I wrote quite a long rply to someone who was looking at 9-3s. For some reason the search will not find it when I try. Perhaps someone else could have a go??

The basis was that I love my 9-3 Aero.

I agree with those who say 'go for the Mazda 6'. It's cheaper and roomier than an Audi of similar age. You could also think about the Toyota Avensis or Honda Accord Tourer.

Go for petrol in all cases.

Thanks people I have a test drive booked for tomorrow with a Mazda 6, 05 reg 2.0 petrol and one on Saturday with a Saab 9.3 aero.will let u know how it goes

Found it! Seems putting a name in the 'author' box (my own in this case) makes the search engine look for threads originated by that name and not replys by that name.
